The HPV vaccination is a vital first step in the fight against cervical cancer. And thanks to the school-based National HPV Vaccination Program, more young Australians are vaccinated against HPV than ever.
However, vaccination protects against up to 90% of the risk of cervical cancer but doesn’t provide protection against all of the cancer-causing HPV strains. And that’s where regular cervical screening comes in.
Thanks to recent advances, the test may only be needed every 5 years. But despite this, almost 45% of Australian women are not up to date. What’s even more worrying is that more than 70% of cervical cancers occur in women who have not had regular cervical screening.
At ACCF, we know that knowledge is one of our most powerful weapons in the fight against cervical cancer. Our evidence-based education programs are designed to raise awareness across the community and highlight how easily preventable this deadly disease is. HPV & Me- Awareness Program for Schools
The ACCF Program for Schools is designed to educate high school students about the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and empower them to take control of their long-term health. As the cause of almost all cases of cervical cancer, as well as other related cancers in men and women, it’s essential young people understand what HPV is, and how to prevent it. This free program arms students with the information they need now, and into the future.
