Cervical Cancer Prevention Options in 2024

About Awareness Week

Cervical Cancer Awareness Week (10-16 November 2024) is the Australian CervicalCancer Foundation’s annual awareness campaign. We enthusiastically invite everyone to choose to help us make cervical cancer in Australia, history!

This year, the theme is ‘The Power of Choice’.

In 2024, there’s more ways to choose to prevent cervical cancer, than ever before!

The simple and important message:
You can choose to protect yourself from cervical cancer with more choice than ever before.

With changes to our National Awareness and Screening programs, preventing cervical cancer has never been easier.

To protect yourself and prevent cervical cancer, there’s more choice than ever before:

  1. One (1) dose of the HPV vaccine free for all young people under 25 years, male and female, if you missed your chance at school age.
  2. Cervical screening tests every five (5) years for women and those with a cervix from age 25–74 years.
  3. Choose Your Screening Method There are choices:
    a. Have your doctor or nurse perform a cervical screening test (Download the cervical screening Comfort Checklist to ensure this method is as comfortable as possible).
    b. Self-Collection – talk to your doctor or nurse about choosing to collect your sample yourself.

2024 Campaign objectives:

  • Increase community public awareness of cervical cancer and available prevention options
  • Give community members the opportunity to engage through spreading simple important messages and enjoy the opportunity to FUNdraise with close associates, family and friends
  • Highlight that the following choices to protect yourself against cervical cancer are available to Australians:
    • Vaccination is now free for anyone from 12 up to 25 years, so see your GP or clinic and choose to get up to date, if you missed vaccination at school and
    • Cervical screening is now recommended every 5 years (due to improved detection) and recommended from 25–74 years
    • Self-collection is now possible – ask your doctor or nurse about choosing to collect your sample yourself, if that seems more comfortable and less daunting.

  2. Host a small event at work or home to help raise funds for ACCF Orange Hearts program which support women with cervical cancer and their families.

Event Ideas

Host a Morning Tea

with Orange Cake or Orange Hummus and Nachos!

Invite friends over for a treat or gather work colleagues together at the office and ask them to donate an agreed amount per person.

All the money you raise will help ACCF provide funds for the
Orange Hearts program giving practical support to patients and their families during their cervical cancer journey.

Have a girl’s night in with your closest friends

Simply invite your favourite friends over for a fun night in and ask them to donate what they would normally spend on a night out. Whether it’s all-round manicures with orange nail polish, a casual pizza, a Rom-Com movie marathon or just inviting the girls over for a catch up. Whatever you choose to do, big or small, every cent counts to help women with cervical cancer and their families.

All the money you raise will help ACCF provide funds for the
Orange Hearts program giving practical support to patients and their families during their cervical cancer journey.
